Rising 9th Grade FAQ's
Question: Will my child have the opportunity to change his/her mind about electives once the selection is made in parent portal?
Answer: Elective registration is from January 22 at 9:00am until January 30 at 4:00pm. You may make changes during this time frame. Students are encouraged to make their selection and also choose three alternate electives in the event that he/she does not get their first choice. Once the portal is closed on January 30, there will not be a chance to amend these choices.
Question: Will my child have an opportunity to change the courses his/her 8th grade teacher recommended for the upcoming school year?
Answer: Yes, during the waiver period students can elect to take another course as long as he/she has the prerequisite to take the course. The waiver period is from January 22 at 9:00am until January 30 at 4:00pm. The course waiver is found on the EFHS website. NOTE: Any student who waives into a course must stay with that choice. Students are not allowed to drop out of any course that he/she waived into.
Question: Should my child take Health/Personal Fitness in the summer?
Answer: There is no recommendation to take these courses over the summer; however, if you choose to do this there is a protocol that must be followed in order to receive credit for the course. If you choose to take these State-REQUIRED courses over the summer it is your responsibility to bring the transcript for each course to EFHS. The parent of the student MUST sign the transcript stating, “as the parent of ______ student I understand that once we submit this transcript it is permanently recorded and cannot be removed for any reason.” NOTE: STUDENTS WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED AN ELECTIVE CHOICE BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE THESE COURSES DURING THE SUMMER. ELECTIVES WILL BE CHOSEN BASED ON SEAT AVAILABILITY. We encourage you to select Forsyth Virtual Academy if you choose to take health/personal fitness over the summer.
Question: What time does school start?
Answer: School starts at 8:25 a.m. Students arriving after 8:25 a.m. will be marked tardy.
Question: How much time do I have between classes?
Answer: Currently, there is a 5-minute transition period between classes.
Question: What do I bring on the first day of school?
Answer: Each teacher will advise your student about their expectations for supplies. The first day they should bring paper, pen/pencil, and one folder.
Question: Can I prepay my lunch account like I did in Middle School?
Answer: Yes, you may login to My School Bucks and put money on your account. Please see our website in the “Quick Links” section for this URL if you are not familiar.
Question: Where do I catch the bus, and when will it pick me up?
Answer: All bus routes will be posted during 9th-grade orientation. It is important to find your bus number, time of pick up, and the slot number so you know where to find your bus at the end of the day.
Question: When will I eat lunch?
Answer: We eat lunch during 4th period or 5th period, depending on the daily bell schedule.
Question: If my student is a car rider, where do I drop him/her off?
Answer: Students are only allowed to be dropped off at the Main Entrance by the flagpole (middle entrance). The traffic pattern information can be found on the EFHS website.
Question: How do I join a club?

Question: How do I join a sports team?
Answer: Check the EFHS website for a complete list of our sports programs by season. All sports teams will require a tryout, so make sure you check early in the year so as not to miss out. Also, listen to the Bronco Block announcements and look for information on the TVs around school.
Question: Where do I go if I come to school late or need to leave early?
Answer: You need to report to the Attendance Office at the main entrance. If you are leaving early, bring a note or have your parent/guardian email EFHS Attendance so that your absence may be verified. If you come to school tardy, you MUST stop by the Attendance Office, whether or not you have a note and pick up a check-in slip. If you fail to check-in or check-out through the Attendance Office, it is considered skipping and students will receive a disciplinary consequence.
Question: Will I be able to purchase a locker?
Answer: Yes, students will have the opportunity during Freshman Orientation to purchase a locker. Lockers are purchased through School Pay.
Question: How will my child purchase a PE uniform if he/she wants one for the semester?
Answer: PE uniforms are handled through the PE department. Once your child has the class, the teacher will explain the purchasing process. Students will not be penalized on the first day of school if they do not have a uniform.
Question: How will I know what I need to know before my first day of school?
Answer: There will be a Freshman Orientation just before school starts that will allow your student to spend time on campus. Schedules are usually released to students 3-4 days prior to the first day of school.
